„I don't want anyone to think they don't need someone else“

Alexander Van der Bellen

President of Austria

Alexander Van der Bellen, son of an Estonian and a Russian with Dutch roots, has been Federal President of Austria since 4th December 2016.

His family found a new home in Austria, after they had to flee several times from the atrocities of the Soviets. Van der Bellen was born in Vienna and grew up in the Tyrolean Kaunertal valley. After graduating from high school, he taught economics at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna before entering the political arena in 1997.

In 2016 he was elected President of the Republic of Austria and since then directs the threads from the Vienna Hofburg. Van der Bellen wants to be a Federal President for all people living in Austria. "Less arguing, more listening" is his clear message.

Fendrich's "I am from Austria" sounded at the election campaign party and Van der Bellen is an Austrian through and through and also a "child of Europe".

The podium discussion on Friday, October 12, 2018, focuses on his love for the mountains as well as the stories of a varied and exciting life. With him the climber Stefan Glowacz stands on Friday evening on the IMS stage.
